No. Umbra never writes browsing history to disk. Each tab uses an ephemeral data store that is completely destroyed when the tab is closed. There is no history file to clear because one never exists in the first place.
Every tab gets its own non-persistent WKWebsiteDataStore. This means cookies, cache, localStorage, and session data are completely isolated between tabs. A login in Tab A is invisible to Tab B. When you close a tab, all of its data is purged from memory.
Umbra uses content blocking rules derived from EasyList (ads) and EasyPrivacy (trackers), plus our own curated Umbra Core list. These are compiled into WebKit Content Blocker rules that prevent requests from ever being made. You can see exactly what's blocked by tapping the shield icon on any page.
Some websites break when ads or trackers are blocked. Tap the shield icon in the address bar, then tap "Disable Blocking" for that site. This whitelists the domain so content blocking is turned off. You can manage your whitelist in Settings. If the site still doesn't work, email us the URL at bugs@norsehor.se.
Open the iOS Settings app, scroll down to Umbra, tap it, then tap "Default Browser App" and select Umbra. You can also find this option inside Umbra's Settings screen. Once set, every link you tap in other apps will open in Umbra.
Shadow is free and includes all core privacy features: isolated tabs, ad/tracker blocking, anti-fingerprinting, HTTPS-first, encrypted bookmarks, and Cloudflare DNS. Eclipse ($3.99/mo or $29.99/yr) adds custom DNS providers, advanced blocklists, and priority support. Void ($59.99) is a one-time purchase that includes everything in Eclipse forever, plus earliest access to betas.
Not yet — bookmarks are currently stored locally on your device, encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Cross-device sync is on our roadmap for a future update. When we build it, your bookmarks will be end-to-end encrypted in transit.
Subscriptions are managed through Apple. Open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions, find Umbra, and tap Cancel. Your Pro features remain active until the end of your current billing period.
Not currently, but our privacy practices are fully transparent. Our Privacy Policy details exactly what data exists (very little) and where it lives (your device). We don't collect, store, or transmit your browsing data.
Umbra uses its own built-in content blocking system rather than Safari extensions. This gives us tighter control over privacy and performance. All blocking rules are managed within the app — no third-party extension access needed.
